In 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, Catalunya has been celebrating the Biodiversity Week, offering iWith.org a new opportunity to work in a web project developed for the Xarxa de Custòdia del Territori (Network of Territorial Custody) an the Departament de Medi Ambient i Habitatge (Department of Ambiental Environment and Housing).
Summer has arrived and with it our plans to travel, to look for places that surprise us, relax us, or entertain us. We want to give you a project to work on if you consider yourself an observant and sensitive person, and have a camera. iWith.org’s 2010 Summer Photo Contest is open and from now until September 20th you can send us your photographs.

Last Thursday, the WWF Mediterranean Program, convened several organizations like the Red Cross, Greenpeace, XCT and
iWith.org to strengthen the networking of its operations in the Balkans.
For our conference at the United Nations, we made a video interviewing our beneficiaries on their relationship with the Internet and their approach to communicate effectively on the web with simple tools.
On Thursday, March 11, 2010, the team of Iwith.org visited the United Nations of Geneva to give a speech over web communication tools for NGOs in the context of an event for the Human Rights Council session.
Last Friday Iwith.org attended the Doing Good and Doing Well event at the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. The event, run jointly with Net Impact, is the leading student run event on Responsible Business, Development and Sustainability in Europe. We had the pleasure of meeting many new interesting people and students interested in activism and sustainable development.

The forum was held in the Juan Carlos I Hotel in Barcelona, the 27th, 28th and 29th of November. 50 people assisted full of heart, projects and realities.
Wikihappiness, a non-profit organization dedicated to promote solidary attitudes, was in charge of coordinating and organizing the event, and they did so with the discretion and prudence characteristic in them. The First MicroNGOs’ Forum was a success, and we, in

Late last night, with the sounds of Burruezo and Bohemia Camerata, we participated in the closing of the Global Eco-Forum in Barcelona.
Under the slogan The Transition Towards Sustainability, the Forum has united the great names of European environmental protection such as Cristina Narbona, Spanish ambassador of OCDE, Dominique Voynet, one of the founders of the Green Party in France, and Dimitri Zenghelis from the Office of Climatic Change in the United Kingdom.

The mobile phones that we all use and enjoy, without thinking much about the production process, are full of the mineral coltrane. The number of genocides in the Congo that are related to the recovery of coltrane grow every day. It is a shame worldwide where other ecological tragedies of great magnitude should also be added. Nevertheless, more than thirty businesses, the majority of them Western, continue importing minerals from the Congo, regardless of such tragic politics. Easy equation.
From 7 october 2009 on, after six years of existence the catalan xarxanet.org project is starting a new phase. The new
xarxanet.org was reborn with a brand new technologic platform, as well as a new design and the incorporation of tools 2.0 to guarantee the user's participation.
Right on schedule, on the 20th of September, the time was up to submit photos to iwith.org's 2009 contest. From different parts of the world and with very different viewpoints, dozens of people sent us their own personal portraits of the digital divide, and these are the pictures selected by the jury. Our thanks go to all who supported the initiative in this way.
This first week of September we were in Monterrey, Mexico for the
UNGAID Global Forum 2009 where, under the title of
ICT and Innovation for Education, we gave continuity to the
presentation first offered a year ago in the GAID meeting in New York.

Water is essential for life. But it has to be in very good condition, otherwise it can transmit diseases. Indeed, in the
Aims for the Millennium, approved in 2000, one of the targets to reach by 2015 was to 'reduce by half the number of people lacking access to safe drinking water'. Fortunately, an American NGO called '
Potters for Peace' has found an easy way to reach it: the '
Ceramic Water Filter', a device that makes water safe to drink, a system which filters contaminated water, for very little cost, and which can be made with very simple technology.
Iwith.org was invited to Monterrey (Mexico) to the “Global Forum 2009: ICT & Innovation for Education”, where we will present our experience under the name of: “Involving young people in Innovative Educational ICT Initiatives”.

Last October we told you how thanks to
REURSA, one of our beneficiaries, we managed to bring a dozen computers to Morocco via a solidarity caravan called
Caravana Solidaria (organized by Barcelona Acción Solidaria).
Last September Iwith.org welcomed one of our beneficiaries,
Movimiento Idún, and the mayor of the Orellana region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, Anita Rivas. We showed support for their campaign to keep oil underground in
Yasuní, which will protect the biodiversity of one of the richest regions on earth. Today the Ecuadorian press reported good news for the campaign: President Rafael Correa has accepted the proposal.
Lebiscuno, the book of Colombian Katheryn Garcia Johana Pacheco from Bolivar in Cartagena, was the most downloaded in this edition of Iwith.org Contest. Jury also awarded an honorable mention to Yuna by Inma Llavería. We thank the participants and congratulate readers who believed in the importance of our initiative that the internet is also a vehicle of culture.

The II International Encounter of the TIC for Development Cooperation, Cooperation 2.0, ended this afternoon in Gijon with the shared challenge of pushing a "Development 2.0" where all of the agents (Administration, business and third sector) will actively participate in a coordinated manner, starting with the people destined for help. This was one of the main conclusions that ended the event organized by the CTIC Foundation which united more than a hundred technology agents as well as ones from the Cooperation in Asturias during a span of three days.
This year the focus is on short stories up to 5 pages long. As always, the idea is to close the digital divide by showing that the Internet is a way of spreading culture, and that it is accessible to everyone.

Universitat Oberta de Catalunya is hosting the second Specialists’
Congress-Meeting to analyze, study, reflect, debate, share and most of all, to discuss and emphasize proposals about the different situations in which conflicts appear. Iwith.org was invited to attend.
Two important agreements made in recent weeks between the Universities and iwith.org show how they also penetrate into the study and use of ICT.

Concerned with the lower and lower and less effective international contribution to development the Spanish United Nations Association, ANUE, organized in Barcelona the course ‘Tools for Development: Improving Aid for Africa’ with the purpose of launching a new model of International Contribution to Development that makes the most of the aid given. Among the speakers were Iwith.org and many of its beneficiaries.
Following its successes in July this year, Avalon is now offering new courses on the methods of communication that have emerged with new technologoy and the opportunities they represent for the third sector. iwith.org is participating as a trainer in a practial workshop.
This 15th October 2008 is the Blog Action Day!. This year the topic for all podcasters, videoscasters y blogers can speak at length is Poverty. Organizers hope that for one day all of them, could leave their regular work to raise from different perspectives, a debate on this issue.
Our organization will attend and display a poster. It will demonstrate our confidence in reducing the digital divide through access to new technologies and education.
Xarxanet.org provides international information of Catalans NGOs on activities and best practices of associations, through their Castilian, English and French versions. Iwith.org manages subportales Xarxanet.org of Civil Society, a site created by and for civil society, the most visited sections of Xarxanet in June. The number of visits they received shows the interest that exists in the world of associations, to know best practices and opportunities for international presence in the world.
They are two organizations that work with new technology and in the virtual domain. Both believe in the "developing" power of TICs and as such, they have collaborated to give life to interesting projects and future opportunities.

The NGO Intermón Oxfam has launched a web aimed at supportive young people implicated in this institution, just like other initiatives such as la Mediatek, by Grec. www.dalelavueltaalmundo.org looks for volunteers for summer music festivals, suggests an ideas-to-change-the-world contest and offers the possibility of winning a trip to visit a cooperation project -among many other different proposals.
The Forum Alternative Channel: Social Networks and Responsible Media made the conference to an international success, creating a good initial point for the second conference in New York next November.

The collection of poems by Ronald Franklin Castillo Florian, from Peru, has been the most downloaded book in the 2008 contest. As of 12 o'clock on 22 April there were more than two thousand clicks to download one of the 23 works posted on our web site. Once again, we would like to thank the authors for their generosity and trust and the readers for their faith in the project.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate has filed two discrimination lawsuits against Guatemalan Constitutional Court (CC) Justices that threw out international warrants for the arrest of former military officials accused of genocide. Meanwhile, Santiago Pedraz has called the media worldwide (newspapers, radio, television, and digital media) to invite victims of Human Right abuses and people interested in this case to cooperate in the investigation, since the Court has decided not to.
Not long ago we informed you of the winner of our Postcards Contest 2007 but we still had to show you, as it was one of the contest’s guidelines, the most popular postcard. The first Conference on Cooperative Social Responsibility Humanizar 2007 was held in Zaragoza on the 17th and 18th of October, promoted by the Industry and Commerce Department of the government of Aragón. Iwith.org organized the round table “Internet for NGO’s”.
Facebook is a web with social utility. It was created by the Harvard University and anybody can participate in one or more than one network to be in contact with friends, class mates, collegues and, of course, the NGO you participate with, association or interest group.
During the last few months we have received a list of candidates from Catalonian organizations for the 2007 Web Projects Grants carried out conjointly with the International Ashekor Foundation. We should inform you all of the closing as of today of this competition because the number of proposals presented over the last few weeks exceeds that of available scholarships, and therefore, we can not accept new projects.

Once more, the Ab•core Platform will host a European campus, this time under the leadership of the Fundació Ciutat de Viladecans. We are referring to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs for short), which act as main drivers of the European community today, both in Eastern and Western countries, but which must redefine themselves to face the challenges of international competition.
We want to remind you that on the 17th and 18th of September we will be celebrating the 7th annual Fundraising Congress in Madrid's ICAI-ICADE facilities.
